Tudor Dixon Mocks Gretchen Whitmer Using The Plot To Kidnap Her

Theodore Dixon, the Republican Party’s pick to run Michigan, mocked her current opponent Friday for being the target of a kidnapping plot that landed some organizers in a federal prison.

More than a dozen men were arrested in 2020 for plotting to forcibly capture Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (Democrat), possibly to kill her.

Dixon tried to contrast the kidnapping scheme with Whitmer’s policies, which Dixon says are bad for the Michigan companies, but ended up making a bizarre speech.

“The sad thing is, Gretchen is going to tie your hands, point a gun to your head and ask if you’re ready to talk. For someone who is so worried about being kidnapped, Gretchen Whitmer is certainly good at taking work hostage and holding him for ransom,” Dixon said.

Her comments drew applause from the crowd of about 300 at the Polish American Cultural Center in Troy, Michigan, according to the Detroit News.

Whitmer’s campaign responded with a statement emphasizing the severity of the plot against her.

“Threats of violence—whether it be for Governor Whitmer or candidates and elected officials on the other side of the aisle—is no laughing matter, and the fact that Theodore Dixon thinks it is a joke shows that she is wholly unfit to serve in public office,” it read.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, said Dixon’s comments were “distasteful.”

“Anyone who scoffs at such an effort is not fit for public office at any level,” Nessel wrote in a tweet.

But Dixon was not deterred, mocking Whitmer at a different event later on Friday. She recalled the governor’s meeting with President Joe Biden at the North American International Auto Show last week in Detroit.

“The look on her face was like, ‘Oh my God, this is happening.’” Dixon said, describing Biden’s hand touching Whitmer.

Dixon went on to repeat her previous streak for the Detroit crowd, too.

“Earlier today I said, ‘You know, Gretchen Whitmer, since she’s so worried about the kidnapping, she shouldn’t have been holding our business hostage,'” Dixon said. a joke. If you are afraid of it, you should know what it means to have your life taken away from you.”

It was a clear indication of Whitmer’s handling of the pandemic.

Whitmer’s director of communications, Maeve Coyle, on Friday responded to the escalation.

Dixon supports the abolition of personal income tax and the slashing of nearly half of what her website calls Michigan’s “massive regulatory law” in order to “unleash economic growth and attract new business and workforce talent to the state.” Dixon will “enact policies that are supportive of rapidly growing and rehabilitating the country’s image as hostile to business,” but her website doesn’t provide many details.

She got endorsement from former President Donald Trump this summer.

In October 2020, the FBI charged six men with federal crimes with conspiring to kidnap Whitmer, while several others were charged with involvement in government crimes.

The men were especially angry at the precautions Whitmer took to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the early stages of the pandemic. Someone told an FBI informant that he needed 200 men to “break into” the state capitol so they could arrest Whitmer and bring her to trial in Wisconsin for “treason,” according to FBI testimony.
