Cameron Woods appointed as head coach of Oklahoma City Blues

Oklahoma City, September 23, 2022 – The Oklahoma City Thunder have announced the appointment of Chip England and Grant Gibbs as assistant coaches. England and Gibbs join current Thunder assistants Dave Bliss, Mike Wilkes and David Akiniwe, as well as Assistant Coach/Player Development Eric Maynor and Assistant Coach/Program Development Conor Johnson, on the coaching staff Mark Denault. In addition, Cameron Woods has been appointed head coach of the Oklahoma City Blues.

England joins the Thunder team with 23 years of coaching experience in the NBA. He spent the last 17 seasons with Tottenham as an assistant coach, winning two NBA championships (2007, 2014). The California native began his coaching career as a shooting analyst at the Detroit Pistons before moving on to work at the Nuggets for two seasons as player development manager. England graduated from Duke University, played four seasons with the Blue Devils, and became the captain in his senior year. He also enjoyed a nine-year professional career in the Philippines, Canada, and CBA.

Gibbs joins the Thunder bench after serving as head coach for the Blue Team for the past three seasons. He became the third Blue Team coach to join the Thunder coaching staff. During the 2021-22 season, Gibbs helped lead the Blues to the championship title in the first year of the G League Showcase Championship. He originally joined Thunder as Blue’s assistant coach in 2017 after a three-year international career that included stints in the Netherlands and Germany. Gibbs enjoyed a successful team playing career at Gonzaga and later at Creighton where he held the position of captain.

Woods is set to take over head coaching duties with the Blues after spending the past four seasons with the organization, most recently serving as Thunder’s assistant coach. The Butler producer played two seasons with Blue (2015-2017) before starting his coaching career. Last July, Woods served as head coach of the summer league team at the Thunder as he led Oklahoma City to a record 5-3 during the summer league draft in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
