Strictly Come Dancing pairings unveiled during stunning 2022 series launch

Come Dancing will feature two same-sex couples this year, including champion Giovanni Bernice, who will compete to retain his title in partnership with BBC Radio 2’s Richie Anderson in the new series.

Friday night’s launch show saw 15 popular contestants discover which professional partners they would train and perform with during their time on the BBC One programme.

Bernice and Anderson are one of a same-sex couple to compete this year, and comedian and actor Jade Adams and professional Karen Hauer also met.

Anderson admitted that he had specific requirements for his partner because he wanted it to be “big and strong enough…going around the dance floor!”

After Bernice was revealed as his studio partner on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, he said: “Can you get anyone better than Mr. Giovanni? I feel like the envy of the British public at the moment.”

The dancer, who won last year alongside actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, confirmed that he is also happy with his wife, noting that the radio host “has a lot of energy.”

They follow in the footsteps of Bake Off star John White and pro Johannes Radebe, who became the show’s first male-only couple last year and finished in second place.

Adams admitted that she was a huge fan of Strictness and that she was happy to partner with Hauer, saying, “Karen is strict.”

The comedian and dancer are also the second of the same-sex wives on the show, as Katya Jones was paired with Olympic gold medalist boxer Nicola Adams in 2020.

Paralympic swimming gold medalist Ellie Symonds told host Tess Daly she was proud to represent people with disabilities, saying: “It means everything, not just dwarfism but disability in general, for me to get out of my comfort zone and do something I’ve never done before. .

Coronation Street actress and presenter Kim Marsh has been paired with Graziano Di Prima on the BBC’s Morning Live set where she hosts.
