Golden State Warriors All-Star striker Draymond Green has called on NBA owners to hold a vote to end Robert Sarver’s position as owner of the Phoenix Suns.

“I’m asking that there be a vote,” Green said on the “The Draymond Green Show” podcast published on Tuesday.

Association rules require a vote of three-quarters of the Board of Governors to remove an owner.

“It’s a bit baffling for me to get into the arena next year,” Green said in his podcast. “The Phoenix Suns are coming into the arena next year, they are sitting on the sidelines and we will keep playing. So the only thing I will need is someone to explain to me why that was the case. OK to get rid of [LA Clippers owner Donald] Sterling But Is It Possible To Force Robert Sarver To Sell After What We’ve Read?

“…I ask that there be a vote. If that’s the only way, let’s see what those numbers are. Let’s see what they are.”

Sarver, who is also the majority owner of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, was suspended for one year and fined $10 million last week after an investigation found he used the N-word at least five times “when telling others.”

Sarver has also been involved in “cases of unfair behavior towards female employees,” including “gender-related comments” and inappropriate comments about female employees’ appearance.

Sterling silver banned for life, although no vote was held among NBA owners to end his position as owner. The clippers were eventually sold out.

Green said the league penalty for Sarver was not enough, and the players “were kicked out of the league for less.”

“To be suspended for a year and fined $10 million, the only way to be suspended for a year and fined $10 million is if you are the owner of an asset and you cannot be fired,” Green said. “Because I think anyone else in the NBA – especially from a front office standpoint, like maybe not a player, even though we’ve seen players get kicked out of the league for less – would be fired 1,000% if half of the stuff they got kicked out. The investigation into Robert Sarver went beyond anyone else’s.”

The National Basketball Association commissioned an investigation following an ESPN story in November 2021 detailing allegations of racism and misogyny during Sarver’s 17 years as an owner.

Sarver was found to have used the N-word at least five times “in reiterating or claiming to repeat what a black person said – four of those after white and black subordinates told them he should not use the word, even in another iteration,” the NBA report stated. For professionals.

1, if you use the N word to re-describe something someone said or [are] Tells a story that someone told you or [you are] Using the word, because someone else did it — stop it, Green said. “This is ridiculous. Because the comfort level that you have to even use the word again does not validate or make it acceptable to Robert Sarver to use the N word.”

Green wondered how someone like Sarver could lead an organization whose success is “built in large part on the backs of African Americans”.

“When he comes back next year, because it’s only one year, will everything be back to normal?” asked Green. “Are these guys supposed to not see everything they just saw and heard? Are these guys supposed to feel comfortable continuing to work with this guy?”

Silver praised Silver’s “positions they have taken over the years”, but said the outcome of this investigation “did not reach what it should have been.”

“I think someone like Robert Sarver acting in this way could continue to represent us? That’s bulls…” said Green. “You can’t continue to represent more people than you with these views, by talking to people the way he did, treating African Americans and women the way he’s treated, it’s not good.

“This guy is just going back into the fold as if he still represents us? Like a part of us? It can’t be. Because for us, especially African Americans, I feel so uncomfortable, I’m so uncomfortable.” And knowing that in this position, you can basically do whatever you want, and because you own an asset, you can’t be punished? “
