Police said 27-year-old Gonzalez and Antonita Stevens killed Ashley Bocanegra in August by beating her to death – all because she was sleeping with Stevens’ boyfriend.

Stevens was dating Gonzalez’s brother. The women are accused of using his phone to trick Bocanegra into meeting them, then punching and kicking her until she couldn’t breathe.

Bocanegra died of internal bleeding in her lungs.

Gonzalez was in tears during her court appearance on Thursday as the judge brought the case against her.

Police said Stevens started the fight and was joined by Gonzalez.

In court, the police used a video clip showing the women shooting themselves against them.

Gonzalez’s lawyers argued that she was just a bystander, but prosecutors said the video proves that’s not the case. Police said Gonzalez filmed Stevens starting the fight and making threats.

Do you want any of this?” asked Mrs. Janine Gonzalez. To which Mrs. Gonzalez replied, “I do.” She came and kicked her three times on her side,” the police said. “You can clearly hear her saying, ‘I’m going to kill you,’ about five times, ‘Are you ready to die?’ and, ‘I could do worse.'”

Gonzalez argued that she should be tried for manslaughter, not premeditated murder. But police argued that one of the last texts sent by Bocanegra implicated Gonzalez. The text was directed to Gonzalez’s brother.

“She told me I was fine until your sister kicked me in the chest and back,” the police said.

Both women remain in prison without ties.
