Ryan O’Toole finished ninth singles in Portland a week ago. It was her third Top 10 of the LPGA season. It was also the first tournament she’s played in a month.

A week later, after opening with a 7-under 64, O’Toole sits atop the crowded leaderboard at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.

It looks like the four weeks away from the competition have resulted in a nice reset.

“It just depends on where you are in life. Sometimes you’re at a point where, ‘Hey, I have some personal things going on.’ I need to take some time for me. She said.

“It’s hard to get out here and give a performance, especially if your mind is somewhere else. I was curious how that would be. I don’t usually like having many tournaments cancelled, but sometimes that’s a good thing. I think it’s now showing that it matters.”

O’Toole is among five golfers who tied for the lead after hitting 7 runs under, including Megan Kang, Yuka Sasso, Lauren Coughlin of the early wave, and later, Jeonjun Lee 5, at the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas.

On Friday, O’Toole had six in a row on the front nine starting second and had eight in all with only one bogey. However, after the round, she spoke as if she could have more circles on her card.

“I definitely felt like I left a lot outside,” she said after 18 holes on a 54-hole course. “Eight birds, but I still feel there are a lot of birds left there, especially on the back side.”

O’Toole, who hit all 18 greens, was among those who were in the first wave and had some ideas about how to fill in the time on Friday afternoon.

“I’m just going to do a cool-down exercise, hit a couple, hit some balls, maybe go check out Bentonville, get some tea, and walk around. There’s so much to do here Rogers, Arkansas is so much fun,” she said.

Broadcast coverage ESPN +

Friday’s first round of television coverage on the Golf Channel has been postponed but the network will broadcast the second and final rounds.

Additionally, for the second week in a row, ESPN+ will have “Featured Kits” coverage during the morning and afternoon waves on all three tournament days.
